Associate Builder/Remodeler Requirements

The Associate Builder/Remodeler Membership is open to any person whose business is the construction, remodeling or renovation of housing.

Associate Builder/Remodeler membership can be applied for by persons who are unable to currently meet all of the conditions and requirements of the Registered Builder or Registered Remodelor programs at the Building Industry Association of Greater Louisville.

Persons interested in the Associate Builder/Remodeler Membership shall:

  1. Complete the Associate Builder/Remodeler Membership application;
  2. Agree to abide by the provisions of the Bylaws as they may be amended from time to time;
  3. Subscribe to the Code of Ethics of BIA;
  4. Abide by the rules and regulations of the Registered Builder Program;
  5. Meet with the approval of the Board of Directors

All Associate Builder/Remodeler members must obtain 80 credit hours of appropriate professional education within three (3) years of becoming an Associate Builder/Remodeler. A minimum of one-third of the education credits (27 credits per year) must be met at the end of each year in order to maintain status as an Associate Builder/Remodeler member. The education curriculum is set and provided by the Building Industry Association of Greater Louisville annually.

New applicants for the Associate Builder/Remodeler membership who are currently building within the BIA jurisdiction must meet the following requirements unless waived by the Registered Builder Committee:

A. Have an acceptable credit report.
B. Have two (2) Registered Builder/Remodelor sponsors who have personal knowledge of the applicant’s business integrity and construction activity.
C. Submit names of previous customers for purposes of reference.
D. Appear before the Registered Builder Committee for a personal interview.
E. Meet all education requirements as described above.
