November 6, 2012

The group met at Claudia Sanders on the sixth, welcoming our speakers, Eileen Collins from the Shelby County Development Corporation and Mayor Tom Hardesty. Carpet Specialists sponsored our meeting, represented by David Turner. We gave away two gift certificates for Claudia Sanders at the meeting, and the winners were: Kevin Passanissi from P.C. Home Stores, and Teddy Crume from Kentucky Concrete. The Shelby Development Corporation is a long-term member of the Kentucky Main Street Program. It is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to promote the responsible development of our downtown community. Their concentration is business development, planning, promotion, historic preservation and economic restructuring. It is funded by the City of Shelbyville and Shelby County Government. The group is guided by a volunteer Board of Directors comprised of community leaders.

The Group works together with the Chamber of Commerce, Tourism Department, and the Industrial Foundation. They are offering a new incentive program for new companies coming to town. Defer taxes to help with startup costs. Eileen keeps in contact with all the businesses, not just new ones. They also assist with rehab projects. The theme here is to look at the positive and be thankful for our county and downtown area. Main Street is something that is shown to potential companies moving to the area. The Holiday display contest is coming up also with lots of other new events tin the downtown are to bring economic activity. They are also encouraging second story development for downtown living.

Our next meeting will be in the early part of 2013.
