Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) has introduced Amendment #1551, To protect Housing Affordability for low-income Americans, that would prevent the Department of Energy from setting aggressive and costly energy code targets that could increase the price of homeownership for working- and middle-class Americans. Cornyn’s amendment would counter a provision in the comprehensive Senate energy package that includes problematic energy code provisions offered by Senators Rob Portman (R-OH) and Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) which would expand the federal government’s authority in the code development process. As of right now we have only had 7 Kentucky members reach out to Senator Paul and Leader McConnell. Support for this amendment is crucial as it would counter the effects of the Portman Shaheen amendment, which pertained to energy codes.
