Although the lot and location seemed tailor made for the homeowners of this ranch home, the house was devoid of style. Confronted by a tiny foyer that had no personality, a 1970s paneled dark den, outdated kitchen, small master bedroom and bath, and an exterior that was lacking any nuanced architecture, Stacye Love Construction took on a multi-faceted remodel.

Working with the homeowner’s vision of reworking the space, the house was totally redesigned, beginning with three additions that were built to round out the floor plan and provide a picture-perfect front porch. Additions include a 26´ x 26´ family room accented by a cupola, French doors, a wood burning/gas fireplace and ship lap covered walls.

The former living room became a foyer with a barrel ceiling. An existing dining room was converted into a charming sitting room where bookcases are built in to the cased opening and are lined with wallpaper and have picture lamps on top.

A 12-foot cased opening integrates the family room and kitchen. In the kitchen, white cabinets with a herringbone subway backsplash surround an island that is painted gray. White quartz countertops unify the perimeter cabinetry and island. A wood, hand-planed countertop hutch introduces a furniture-like element to the room.
The former family room was repurposed as a dining room. The entrances from the foyer and kitchen were widened, the windows flanking the fireplace were removed and French doors and a chandelier were added.

All bedrooms were updated. One of the additions on the house allowed for a spacious master suite. Shiplap siding complements taupe cabinetry and provides the front panel treatment and splash at the master tub. Chrome sconces are an interesting contrast to the organic character of the reclaimed driftwood backplate at the vanity sinks.

The house’s exterior is embellished with a gas lantern on the front porch, shake gable, ship lap, new doors and windows, and many elements that reflect the homeowners’ classically elegant taste.
