Stonehenge Construction imparted elegant new life to this extraordinary Anchorage home. The existing kitchen was surprisingly small in comparison to the size of the house and certainly was inadequate for the large family’s needs. The totally remodeled kitchen, which opens onto a vaulted-ceiling sitting area, reflects a unique style in which a whisper of formality refreshingly coalesces with an invitation to enjoy casual comfort.

Classic white cabinets, marble countertops, a walnut island, custom walnut hood and a plethora of interwoven details are carefully orchestrated for maximum effect. A larger window was created above the sink to bring in natural light and to augment the glass doors on some of the cabinets. High-end appliances, such as a Sub-Zero refrigerator and freezer, and a six-burner Wolf range attest to the homeowners’ love of cooking.

Above the L-shaped island hang three open drum-like light fixtures that add another element of subdued but glitzy drama. Supplemental lighting is provided by recessed can fixtures and under cabinet lighting. An 8´ x 10´ unused space in the adjacent garage was converted into a built-in pantry. Located off the kitchen, the generously-sized butler’s pantry reprises the cabinets in the kitchen and has open walnut shelving, an oven, dishwasher and sink.

An underutilized second floor space over the garage was reimagined as a laundry room that’s conveniently located to the bedrooms for quick and easy access. With their usual innovative approach, Stonehenge Construction took advantage of unused space under the staircase to create built-in storage.
