Kitchen Remodel

Lovingly used for many years, this Prospect kitchen was showing its age. Now, myriad elements combine for a dazzling effect in the space that was totally reconfigured by a fresh design approach and the removal of a peninsula, a small island, a wall of cabinets and a desk. The kitchen opens onto a conservatory that was added to the house about five years ago.

Katharine Hatcher of PC Home Center designed the white Shaker-style cabinetry that sets a tone of contemporary elegance. A beige and white glass and marble mosaic backsplash beautifully coordinates with the Blanc de Blanc granite on the large island. To accommodate the unusual length of the island, which houses a triple bowl enamel cast iron sink, the granite was book matched for a mirror image of itself. White Cambria quartz countertops were used on the perimeter cabinetry. Undercabinet lighting and brushed nickel hardware accent the color and design of the cabinets.

Rather than extending the backsplash over the built-in buffet, Bittners interior designer Lori Andriot designed a wooden panel for artwork.

Outfitted for a home chef, and converted from electric to gas, the kitchen features a Wolf cooktop and warming drawer, GE double ovens, and paneled SubZero refrigerator and Bosch dishwasher. The powerful hood above the cooktop is vented to the outside.

The Bailey Project Manager, Ryle Reynolds’, creative framing captured the unusual space under the stairs to be utilized for commodious storage and a work area.

Supplementing recessed lighting are a rustic-style light fixture over the table and a pendant that hangs on the slope above the work station.

A substantial steel beam was added to level the floor and to provide support. The wall to the stairs was moved back two feet to allow a better visual connection between the kitchen and family room. Partition wing walls leading into the dining room were removed and replaced with cabinetry siding. Some of the hardwood floors were replaced; others were refinished.

“The remodel was a fabulous success because of the way Bailey Remodeling team managed the project, communicated with us every step of the way, kept on schedule and maintained a neat and clean work environment,” says the homeowner.
